A technical team from Metalock Brasil successfully completed a service involving the replacement and reconditioning of components of an elevator, with a capacity of 500 kg (or six passengers), onboard a vessel docked in Sepetiba (RJ).

The service, performed by a team of three technicians, was requested to replace the bearings of the elevator’s sheaves. During execution, the work scope included the safe immobilization of the cabin at the top of the shaft and the blocking of the counterweight at the lower section, allowing tension release from the cables and access to the six sheaves.

After removing the sheaves, initial measurements revealed significant wear on the sheave seats and on the shafts supporting the sheave/bearing assembly, both out of the original design tolerances. Based on this finding, Metalock Brasil recommended removing the components for detailed evaluation at its workshop, where it was confirmed that all seats and shafts compromised structurally, making the fabrication of new parts necessary.

With the client’s approval, Metalock Brasil manufactured new sheaves and shafts, restoring the system to its original operating condition. The team returned to the vessel for installation and alignment of the components, followed by releasing the cabin and counterweight and conducting a complete final inspection, ensuring the elevator’s full functionality and operational safety.

This outcome reinforces Metalock Brasil’s commitment to delivering high-precision and reliable maintenance services, carried out in accordance with the most rigorous technical and safety standards in the maritime sector.
