Metalock Brasil has recently carried out a structural repair on a SAG mill (Semi-Autogenous Grinding) belonging to a major company in the mining sector, reinforcing its expertise in engineering solutions applied to large-scale industrial equipment.

The service consisted of applying the Metalock® cold repair process to the flange of the SAG mill feed end cover, a key component for the continuity of the ore fragmentation process. The intervention was prompted by the identification of multiple structural cracks in the flange area, which could compromise the integrity of the component and the operational safety of the equipment.

During the inspection phase, three cracks were identified, with approximate lengths of 65 mm, 30 mm, and 43 mm, respectively. Based on this diagnosis, Metalock Brasil’s technical team prepared the area through abrasive cleaning, followed by non-destructive liquid penetrant (LP) testing to fully map the discontinuities.

The repair involved strategic drilling, opening of recesses for the installation of L-shaped Masterlocks® (patented components) applied on both the right and left sides of the flange, as well as the installation of bolts along the length of the cracks. All Metalock® materials were applied using pneumatic peening, ensuring proper mechanical anchoring, followed by finishing of the repaired area.

After completion of the service, a new non-destructive liquid penetrant test was performed to verify the effectiveness of the repair. The restored area was subsequently inspected and approved by a specialized industrial inspection company through ultrasonic testing, confirming the structural integrity of the component and its release for operation.

With a well-established presence in the Industrial sector, Metalock Brasil is a recognized reference in precision structural repairs, delivering solutions that extend equipment service life, reduce maintenance costs and prevent unplanned downtime, directly contributing to the efficiency and reliability of industrial operations.
