Metalock Brasil recently carried out a specialized technical inspection of a monorail system installed aboard an operating container vessel, focusing on the assessment and enhancement of safety devices related to the load hook locking mechanism.

The activity was performed by the company’s technicians onboard the vessel and aimed to verify the current condition of the equipment, identify potential adjustments and assess the technical feasibility of the requested modifications, with the goal of increasing operational reliability and safety during cargo handling operations.

During the inspection, both mechanical and electrical components of the system were evaluated, including the hook locking pin, mechanical stoppers, rails, structural supports, limit switches, electrical panels, relays, cable glands, as well as visual and audible alarm systems. The availability of spare parts onboard for potential future interventions was also verified.

Based on the on-site analysis, Metalock Brasil’s team issued detailed technical recommendations for system improvements, including adjustments to welded supports, fabrication and installation of mechanical guides for cable protection, modifications to the locking pin housing, installation of new mounting points for safety switches, replacement of non-operational signaling devices and functional testing carried out jointly with the onboard crew.

One of the key highlights of the work was the careful assessment of the locking pin geometry, with a recommendation to maintain a rounded profile in order to reduce the risk of mechanical jamming during operation. The inspection also validated components previously installed by third parties, such as mechanical stoppers and racks, confirming compliance with the “as installed” condition.

The inspection was completed on the same day as boarding and included detailed photographic records of the conditions identified and the planned intervention points, reinforcing Metalock Brasil’s commitment to safety, applied engineering, and technical excellence in services performed onboard, even in complex operational environments.
